MAKE A “BUTTERFLY MOBILE”

By DonaldMoon

This beautiful mobile of a butterfly is the perfect size for a little girl’s bedroom. It was easy to put together because I used a die-cut machine to cut my butterflies.

My butterfly mobile was made with materials I had in my home. It was quick and easy, and it was also a free project! You could use felt or scrapbook card stock to make my butterflies more durable. My butterflies are safe and well kept out of reach so durability was not a concern.

To create the illusion of many butterflies flying, I combined two butterfly cutouts. This butterfly mobile is inspired by butterflies flying through a garden with the felt flowers.

You can add your personal style to the project by adding flowers to the top. You can also make it more personal by adding something lords mobile saberfang to the embroidery hoop that will match the decor in the room.

You will need the following items to make your butterfly mobile:

  • An embroidery hoop
  • String or thread
  • Flowers (or the feeling to make them)
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
  • For butterflies, heavy paper or felt

First, assemble your supplies. First, assemble your supplies. I use a Big Shot with several dies to make my flowers. But you can also buy felt flowers or cut them by hand. Here are some felt flower patterns that you can use.

Place your flowers in the way you want them to be on your embroidery hoop, and then glue away! Although there is no right or wrong way, I find that they look better when they are grouped together.

You can arrange your butterflies however you like. While they may hang differently when they are attached to the string or thread, you want them to look exactly how you want. To give them a bit more dimension, I put two butterflies together.

To make this step faster, I used my sewing machines, but glue and string are also options. When sewing paper with your sewing machine, I recommend using an older needle. It will dull your needle just as it does with scissors.

  • Once you have created a strand, you can fold your wings to make your butterflies “fly”.
  • After you are done making the butterfly strands, glue each one to your embroidery hoop.
  • Attach a loop of ribbon or glue to the back to hang your mobile.
